TIP TUESDAY

Toes-to-Bar is a key gymnastics skill we frequently train because they build grip, lat, hip flexor, and core strength, which transfers to other lifts and movements. They also touch coordination, develop efficiency in kipping mechanics, and also challenge endurance and rhythm.

Build strict strength first: Don’t rush into kipping. One strict Toes-to-Bar with Mastery will be more beneficial then 100 without.

Next:

  • Master the kip swing: Practice arch-to-hollow transitions until they feel automatic.
  • Engage lats and core (tummy): Think of pressing down on the bar before lifting toes.
  • Control the return: Actively pull feet back and down to stay in a hollow position.
  • Scale appropriately: Use alternating leg or toes-to-target variations to build strength and coordination.
  • Practice outside workouts: Short, focused drills build muscle memory faster than sporadic attempts.
  • Celebrate progress: Track improvements over time and see how far you’ve come.

The Toes-to-Bar is another foundational movement that strengthens the abs, sharpens coordination, and prepares you for higher-level gymnastics.
